In the event of rain, the performance will be moved inside: New York Society for Ethical Culture, Adler Hall, 2 W.64th St
In celebration of the its 150th anniversary, the New York Society for Ethical Culture is hosting a Social Justice Street Fair. The Society’s Eco-Artist-in-Residency, Jody Sperling, will kick of the day-long event with a performance by her Time Lapse Dance ensemble.
Enjoy three dance works that grapple with climate change issues while providing creative and ethical sustenance for the soul: Plastic Harvest, a romp about plastic pollution that provokes contemplation about the beauty of that—and who—our society throws away; Arbor, which expresses human kinship with trees; and a new work, Rise, that reimagines our relationship with water in response to rising sea levels. Performed by Frances Barker, Anika Hunter, Lo Poppy, Sarah Tracy, Maki Kitahara and Rathi Varma. All ages welcome!

All of these works feature transformative costumes that abstract human movement into elemental and organic forces, with the dancers appearing to conjure a growing forest or a rising sea. The company's unique style of movement draws inspiration from and furthers the art form created by dance icon Loie Fuller (1862-1928) a century ago.
This program is made possible in part by an ongoing eco-artist-residency at The New York Society for Ethical Culture and with support from The Harkness Foundation for Dance.
